Picplz schließt seine Pforten. Ein weiterer Fotodienst ist weg.

Wie auf der Seite von Picplz zu lesen ist, macht der Dienst am 3. Juli zu. Bis dahin kann jeder, der den Dienst bislang nutzte, seine Bilder von dort noch herunterladen.
Man sieht mal wieder, dass gerade Bilderdienste nicht unbedingt ein wirklich sicherer Hafen für die Archivierung der eigenen Erinnerungen sind:

„On July 3, 2012, picplz will shut down permanently and all photos and data will be deleted.
To download your photos, choose Your Photos below and click the Download link next to each of your photos that you want to save. Thank you for your support of picplz and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.“

 

Gut, dass ich bereits zu Instagram gewechselt habe und parallel meine gesamten Bilder auch noch lokal sichere und bei Google Drive.
Man sollte sich niemals nur auf einen Dienst verlassen.
